My Surf Film

Last about Multi-Media

Well, my multi-media project is just about done. In my project I put up some links to both surfing related websites and surfing related articles. I put up some pictures that I took and some that I found on the internet. I put up some videos that I took and some from the internet, though I put one on YouTube and it was too long so I am going to have to go back through and shorten it. I put my paper on surfing up for people to read. Much of the project was frustrating for me because things were not working the way that I wanted them to. Once things started working though, it was pretty fun. I would like to make more surfing videos some time. I am thinking about getting a Mac because it was a real pain to only be able to work on my project at school. The finished project looks pretty good. I am happy with how it turned out.

Multi-media progress

My multi-media project is coming along finally. For the longest time I was having trouble with the pictures. I was trying to put my pictures from my computer directly. I realized after that I had to put pictures up that were on the internet. So if I had any pictures from my computer that I wanted up, I had to host them and then put them on. Once I figured that out, it was not much of a problem. I was having some trouble putting my video together and I don’t have the same program as the one at school but I am going to work on that. I could either go to school to work on it, or I have another program on my computer I could use. Maybe I could make bother just incase on does not work as well as the other. I have put some links to other surf relating sites. I have created a playlist of surf songs and created a page for them. I am going to put the paper for my final feature on here also because it is surfing related. I was also thinking about putting some other surfing articles up. Things are coming together pretty nicely now. I will be happy when it is all over and done, so I can see the final result.

Weekly Blog Post

In most cases I enjoy a good joke. On April 1st, a new YouTube video came out. It was the legend of Zelda movie trailer, and it looked like it was going to be an awesome movie. I am a big movie buff and so I was excited to see the movie. I would assume that, since I am not a huge video game person and I was still excited about it, that a person that was into video games would be doubly excited. A few days later I was talking to my friend Aaron about the trailer and he let me know that it was just an April fools joke. He understandably was bummed since he is the biggest Zelda fan I have ever met. I was bummed as I said because I like movies. I understand that the people responsible for making the trailer just wanted to mess with people, but I think that is the wrong way of doing it. Aaron said "this would be the greatest movie of all time..." maybe the joke will be on the people who made the trailer, when they realise how much money they could have made on the movie. Perhaps, since it was such a big hit the trailer will become a real movie. Until them we can only hope.

Weekly Blog Post

Talk about a temper. In Allentown Pa. a man was charged with pushing a friend down a 500 foot coal mine! That is not the type of friend that I want to have. The kicker about it was the friend that got pushed, survived the fall! Richard D. George was the pusher and the friend that got pushed was Nathan Bowman. The two 23 year olds had gotten into an argument and then that’s when the push accrued. George called 911 after pushing his friend. Later while questioned told a story that made little sense and then finally admitted to the crime. George was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and other offenses. Bowman, the friend that got pushed came out with a broken collarbone, broken tailbone, and suffered injuries to his ankle and writs. Talk about getting off easy. I mean out of context those injuries would be a total bummer but after a 500 foot fall, I would be very happy to be alive.

Weekly Blog Post

The world is hungry. Lately there has been a real problem with food shortages throughout the world. Some of the contributing factors are, drought, the continuing rise in the cost of gas, and methods for alternative fuels. As for the drought, that is an issue all its own, I am here to talk about the gas. The cost of gas has always been an issue with consumers, yet instead of people doing anything about it, most times they just deal with it and pay up. Currently in America uses gas for most our transportation vehicles, from boats to cars to airplanes. America uses large ships to import various goods throughout the world. The large ships use large amounts of gas, not to mention the possibility of springing a leak and not only, waiting even more gas, but also doing serious damage to the ecosystem. The cost of shipping from one country to the next has helped to contribute to the rise in the cost in gas, and with it, the rise in the cost of food. So, people say “well, gas is getting expensive what can we do?” they think about it. “Hey I have a great idea, we can start to convert to an alternative fuel we will use ethanol!” “What!? Are you nuts? We have a monopoly on gasoline not ethanol, anyone can make ethanol.” “We will make a specific type, and we will use corn, we have so much of it already and we will keep our monopoly on the fuel industry, why not?” “Hey that’s swell!” Well, we did have plenty of corn, for people to eat. Once we started making fuel out of it, it stopped being so cheap. These factors combined together make one big problem for the world. If people were less concerned with money and more concerned with the rest of the world, maybe we could make a real solution.

Reflective writing assignment

The center point for my final multimedia project is surfing. I have already gotten started on the video, I have already shot the footage, at least most of it, and I have began to edit. For the rest of my multimedia assignment I intend to have some still photos, links to other sites about or relating to surfing, and an explanation about my project. I think this will be a worth while effort because I will be able to use what I accomplish in this class in my 100W class also. This class will be/ is different from my other in class lab assignments because for one reason much of the work is done outside of the class. Much of the rest of my material and research will also be done outside of the class. It is hard to say the amount of time that will be spent on this project because it will be spread out threw a number of days. I would say that I have already spent about eight hours on the project so far and I am only about a quarter of the way through it. I look forward to the completed product.

Weekly Blog Post- The World is Flat

The world is flat or at least we as a technology have become flat according to Thomas L. Friedman. I found the speech very interesting. He brought up many intriguing examples throughout his speech. One of which was about out sourcing, Friedman said that when he was in Washington DC. he went to a McDonald’s drive threw window. He later found out that the person he spoke to, through the microphone, was not inside that McDonald’s store location, but instead across the country somewhere in Colorado. Out sourcing like this has become adopted by many companies throughout the world for, little to no difference, to what it would be at the company’s location.
Friedman also spoke on the topic of airplane flight tickets. When the consumer first started purchasing their ticket you had to speak to an individual who could book the seat, time and location of your flight for you. The future evolved to do it yourself machines, and these days you can book your flight, and print out a ticked from your home computer.
Changes such as the ones that Friedman spoke of are why he says the world is flattening out. The whole world is at your hands grasp with out you even realizing it, everyday.

Weekly blog Post

For this weeks weekly blog post I am going to be talking about the current democratic candidate standings. The other day I was listening to the news and I heard that Clinton offered Obama the position of Vice President. Many people may argue that she was implying that her win was a sure thing, however, I believe she is scared. I think Clinton proposed her offer because she is afraid that she is going to lose and she wants Obama out in order to put odds in her favor. I hope Obama wins.

Weekly blog post?

Well, it said that there was one due but there was no topic to go by, so I am going to write about something else. we are normally given a topic so I am going to write about insomnia. I think I may either have some of it or maybe I am just really good at procrastinating. because I will find any excuse to no do my homework for as long as possible. I am working full time as well, I am a full time student. this leaves me with not much free time. so when I have free time I like to relax. I like to spend having a bite to eat while watching my favorite show the office. Last night I could not sleep, I think I got about 10 minutes of sleep. Lets see how the rest of the day goes.

Links Everywhere.

I went onto Ryan Sholin’s web site and I checked out a few of his attached web sites. Out of the seven attached sites available on his Links that redefine news site I would have to say Everyblock- Knight news challenge project and Flight delays- Las Vegas Sun were the most interesting. Compared to the other links on his page I found them the most helpful and easy to use. Both links made it easy to look up things for your local area that I would not have expected to find. On the Everyblock link I found ratings of restaurants and crimes rankings in somewhat near by areas, for San Fransisco, New York, and Chicago. New cities are coming soon but until then its still interesting to see what there is. The Flights delays site was interesting because it showed you just that. On the site you can check your flight, flights anywhere in America and also flight delay ratings for airlines and airports. I found both of these sites more interesting than the Cluetrain Manifesto. The Cluetrain Manifesto was interesting, but it was just a jumble of words for the most part. I found the other two sites were much more interesting because they were more interactive.

Cluetrain Manifesto

I read the Cluetrain Manifesto and I thought it seemed insightful because it seemed to me that it was a bunch of people's opinions put together. In the 95 Thesis it was interesting to see all the differences between each of them. Some are more insightful, others are talking of what change we need. I guess what it all comes down to is that the human voice is important and it has always been important to get your voice heard. The only way you can make change is by getting your voice heard. Otherwise you might as well just not try at all.

Dueling videos…courting the youth vote

Ah yes, well, I voted for Barack Obama but I enjoyed the Hillary Clinton video much more. The Hillary Video had more of a comedic tone to it and the Obama had a serious tone to it. The Obama video did not keep your attention quite as well, and was more repetitive. The Obama video just had a bunch of people from different racial backgrounds and genders saying "Yes we can" over and over. While the Hillary Video was well made, creative, and defiantly kept your attention with the whole bit about her being part of a band and deciding to run for president. Once the video has your attention they make their point. They say Hillary will make college affordable, fight global warming, and end the war. now, we will see how things go with the election, and I still stick with whom I voted for but out of the two, it made Hillary seem more appealing to me.

weekly blog post

For our MCOM 101 class we were given the assignment to listen to controversial radio show host Michael Savage for fifteen minutes. Savage is on the radio station KNEW 910 am. From 3 pm- 7pm. I thought Savage was quite interesting to listen to. I can understand however, how many people would say he was offensive. He is very opinionated and obviously an intelligent man though I don’t agree with most of what he says. Savage is most definitely a conservative man. He, from what I gathered listening to what he says, appears to despise democrats.
Savage was saying the he has wanted to change the name of the Martin Luther King day holiday to Civil rights day for years. When on the topic of changing the name of the MLK holiday to civil rights day, I believe he said: “if you want to see some “salad picker” to have his name on a holiday then, vote democrat.”’ Although offensive, Savage is within his rights under the first Amendment. Even when savage says statements such as “the gays and the feminists are draining the masculinity from this country.” After listening to Michael Savage for this assignment, I think I may tune in once in a while just to see what he is shaking up.

photo shop again

I'll have to write more later I'm out of time.

late-breaking blog post

Our class was given three options, write about the up coming election, write about a presentation or sorts, or write about the super bowl advertisements. My choice, of the three, I have come to is to write about the advertisements that ran during the super bowl.
I want to write about the commercials for a couple reasons. The first reason I wanted to write about the commercials is, I didn’t get the chance to watch them when the game was happening and I figured this would give me the opportunity to find them on the internet. The second reason goes along with my major. My major is advertising so I like to keep track to the advertisements on the television because I want to help make them one day.
It took me a little while to find a good site with all of the advertisements from the 2008 game. Many of the sites either had only one or two of the advertisements, were only a synopsis, or were from the wrong year. Once I found the right site I was blown away by the amount of commercials there were. The second quarter alone had 22 commercials.
There were a few advertisements that stuck out in my mind that most. The first was a “Tide To Go” advertisement with a talking stain that would talk gibberish over the man who was trying to present himself in a job interview. The second was a “Cars.com” with a man that had checked out a car on the internet to find the best price before going to the dealership. The third was a “CareerBuilder” advertisement with a woman that obviously hated her job but just didn’t know how to tell her boss. The woman was at her desk when her heart jumped out of her chest, walked up to her boss, and told him that she quite.
Overall I was quite entertained by this year’s super bowl advertisement lineup.
